I'm not capping the comments are gone from 2dopeboyz we talked for like 3 comments, im a big fan I remember the s***. I said I loved it he said thank appreciate the support he asked what my fav song was I said she needs me. He said mine too. I said been a fan since the EP he said appreciate the continued support. And for all I know it was just Tde dude doing promo but Kenny had a direct line with 2dopeboyz which was a popular blog and Kenny was doing groundwork at the time. Believe what you want the point is I have been there as a fan since his literal switch from kdot to Kendrick Lamar.

And it genuinely didn't help at that time. I've been on Kenny since 09 literally spoke to him via 2dopeboyz the day/night OD dropped. Said his fav song was she needs me. The placements on multiple high charting albums/singles/MV tour with Drake were the things that brought him to the next level at that time.

Most people’s first exposure to Kendrick Lamar was on Take Care. It wasn’t S.80 or OD. Especially casual fans of rap.

Most of yall are like late teens early 20s. You gotta understand that was 2011 and you weren’t gonna know S.80 unless you actively went looking for info on music like that. Music discourse on social media wasn’t anything like it is today. Only reason I knew about S.80 was cus I was on Niketalk and the old heads on there were feeling it in their music section.

It was Drake putting him on the proper platform to grab attention and then Kendrick capitalizing on it by dropping an incredible album shortly after (with another Drake feature mind you).

Without Drake GKMC wouldn’t have been as widely received as it was

Ngl I agree with everything except the last one GKMC was hyped in the west and in Chicago bloggers in 2dopeboyz and datpiff were hyping his debut up like crazy and thats before the track list even showing up. I had friends who weren’t aware of rap immediately talking about lookout for detox guy dropping hist first album. I don’t think drake had anything to do with the reception it got but we also can’t deny that Drake stimulus didn’t help boost some type of numbers but definitely not the reception. That album was too good and word of mouth got it where it is in rap history
