    If artists give into the expectations of critics, artists also give into the expectations of label executives, Spotify playlist curators, DJs, influencers, etc. Everyone has an intended audience and caters to them on some level. It's all bait because artists want to catch new listeners one way or the other.

    Why is catering music to the expectations of people who are paid to evaluate music inherently worse than catering to mainstream trends?
