(we're already 1/3 of the way through the decade )

quick a***ysis of the the top dogs and their unique advantages & disadvantages:

    1. the weeknd: the artist with the biggest audience rn, which puts him in a league of his own in the hot100. hes got the biggest hit this decade (blinding lights) and currently has a top10 hit that is a 6 year old song.. though his listeners are mostly casuals rather than diehard fans so he could lose his appeal at any second. (we already saw a bit of that with Dawn FM)

    2. taylor swift: current #1 albums artist (w/ 7 albums in the top 50 this week) & leagues of her own as a touring artist. almost certain to overtake the weeknd for #1 in august after her tour finishes up, and one thing we know about concerts is that demand will continue to go up even if an artist starts to decline commercially. though on the other hand, female artists can possibly hang around as long as males, and shes already 34.

    3. morgan wallen: even crazier albums longevity than taylor, though hes benefitted from the "smaller discography advantage" (the more albums he released the more his listeners/fans will be spread all over multiple albums so it's unlikely he could continue to live inside the top10 like he does now), but hey. the country folks are loyal as f***. maybe they could still do it for him.

so what do you guys think? who is gonna take the top spot?

when does the tracking period end? because Taylor has like half her discography still left to re-release on top of new music. it’s definitely going to her

i believe its around nov of 2029, so there's plenty of time to go.

and billboard doesnt really play favorites, they just add the points from the charts and let things run its course. besides, for a 34 year old woman, she'll probably start to decline before the dudes do.

however she will still get a s*** ton of points from touring though. and that s*** will keep gettin bigger and bigger as as an artist grow.

Where would Drake have been on this list in April 2013? There’s no telling who will go on to win

Facts, by April 2013 the top 10 was probably some combo of like Bruno Mars, Adele, Katy Perry, Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, etc.

This entire Top 10 will more than likely look entirely different by 2029 outside of a couple of names (most likely Weeknd, Taylor, and Drake)

  • Apr 12, 2023

It is funny though that pop ruled the beginning of the 2010s, and the same is happening now at the beginning of the 2020s

  • Apr 12, 2023

It’ll probably be Taylor. She still has yet to release 1989 TV and Rep TV and she has plenty of new releases coming too. Fraudulent yeah but it is what it is.

the difference is, streaming gives new albums/singles a lot more longevity than pure selling, and Drake peaked right at the perfect time when streaming complete takeover as the main method of music consumption. therefore, he gained a lot more points from this new medium, while his competitors were not so quick to catch on or werent releasing projects as frequent for one reason or another (taylor had to disappear cus of the kanye thing, adele always was lazy, and rihanna was retiring)

this time around though, weve already seen people with absurd career performances (the weeknd with the biggest song on earth - blinding lights, morgan wallen's album permanently in the top 5 for 2+ years, taylor & drake with 9 albums on the top200 for years on end etc etc) so a newcomer wouldnt be able to overtake the top dogs middle of the decade like last time, unless we change how we listen to music again.

if morgan keeps dropping 30 bombs every year he’ll take it for sure

people dont vibe with older women as they do with older guys (and if youre a male country you could become even more popular) so she'd have a much bigger risk of commercial decline before drake and the weeknd would start to flop i'd say. but shes also got a huge and insanely dedicated fanbase so anything can happen.

Taylor exists outside of this framework. She’ll absolutely retain her cache. Other than her you’re not entirely wrong sadly. Misogyny exists everywhere
