Finally got to watch it. I've never had that unsettling feeling from a movie ever. I even screamed at certain points like the whole time I was on edge. Glad it’s doing numbers because it deserves it. One of those you have to see in cinema too.. the atmosphere and sound just hits different. Still thinking about it even now

  • Degausser

this was pretty solid, pretty good even.

almost more unsettling than the film itself is seeing people (well, men) make arguments siding with Bear, or at least giving him some sort of benefit of the doubt.

i am a little confused by the reception, however. like it's good, but not THAT good (shout out Inde Navarrette though, she did amazing). yet, i wouldn't call it overhyped/overrated as it definitely deserves its flowers.

i suppose it's because it's more a more straight-forward and digestible story - compared to, say, Backrooms - and therefore casts a bigger audience net? there's not much thinking and the focus is on the shock value.

It's more normie safe than backrooms

  • Just came out of theatre, this is my favourite film of 2026 so far

  • Crazy good movie, a compelling story told well, great performances, fantastic management of tone, just a real all-rounder

  • Watched this at the drive in last night. What a movie. Loved it

I finally caught a screening in between World Cup matches and holy s*** this is a masterpiece. Inde was phenomenal and Curry barker just set the bar so high idk how you top this. The score, the cinematography, the writing, the humor. Backrooms doesn't even compare to this. To make something like this off of only 750k is a testament to modern filmmaking.

Coogler my boy and sinners was hard but booker just dropped a crazy debut. It's like putting up a triple double in your opening game as a rookie

  • mjpplus

Life changing movie for this cast I’m happy for all of them tbh

Inde is gonna go hammer in the next couple years and depending on what roles she chooses could be the difference in her sustaining a career or ending up just a talk of the town. The rest of the cast eh they were alright.

This is a pretty crazy image to use in this scenario bro

Coogler still broke records as a filmmaker of color. No hate on booker because he did his thing on obsession but I think it says more about the horror genre in general than it does on individual filmmakers. Sinners, obsession, weapons these have all been horror movies that aren't just entertaining and high quality but they have the box office to show for it which is a lot more than IP big budget movies like supergirl, mortal kombat and masters of the universe. Horror is what is saving theaters right now

Like an Angel Reese triple double where the rebound numbers are inflated because she’s grabbing all her misses.

And then one of the other stats is turnovers.

You tryna say this trash? I'm the first one to dissect and s*** on a film but I got no complaints here. Perfect runtime too. I can only imagine how hard a movie has to be to get younger audiences actually focused on a movie and not on their phones

I wish it was just a bad movie. (But it definitely is that too.)

It’s an evil movie that doesn’t even come close to making the points it thinks it does. It’s a misogynistic, male-gaze centered loser wet dream. Curry Barker is maybe the worst to ever do it and I wish him zero success in the future. The only way audiences can approach it and find any appreciation for it is because they are looking at it through an external lens separate from the movie. They see Bear, they know the deal, they know what he is and they assume the movie is going along with them, but it’s not, it never is, and Barker doesn’t even shy away from that.

A quote from him taken directly from The New Yorker:

“It starts from a very innocent place with Bear. I wanted it to be relatable. We've all had a crush on someone who didn't like us back-which is kind of a creepy concept, when you think about it," Barker went on. "You imagine this whole reality that may never be." Such obsession can be a frightening emotion both for the person experiencing it and for the target. One of Bear's first lines, as he talks about his love for Nikki, is "I feel like I'm coming apart." The fact that he never manages to confess this to her is part of the horror: Barker wanted to play on the very modern fear, among young men, of "not saying the right thing, or not wanting to not come off like a creep.”

He doesn’t see his own character for what many who enjoy the movie assume it has to be. If anything he sees both Bear and Nikki as victims but in this type of movie, with these kinds of themes, that’s not nearly good enough. At best it’s dangerously noncommittal, and at worst it’s sociopathic.

Easily a worst of the decade contender.

    Cast innocent.

I can see where you are coming from but I didn't read that much into tbh bro. This concept was basically an episode of fairy odd parents and Appearently the idea was inspired by a treehouse of horror Simpsons episode. I don't think it's this loser fantasy p*** you think it is. I just thought it was an entertaining and well put together movie. Especially for $750k come on bro. If you really love cinema this is what good filmmaking is all about. How he follows this up will be up to him. Maybe he's a one hit wonder. But this and its box office are what's keeping movie theaters alive

The gif isn't a statement of victory over sinners. it's a victory of achieving the record. Doesn't matter what movie it beat for it. I'm happy it was able to accomplish that.
