Tbh no matter what, every universally loved film will eventually reach the stage after it’s theatrical release where people will start saying “this didn’t live up to the hype” or “idk why people were praising this so much”

Happened with Sinners recently as well

But people just gotta accept that not every movie is going to appeal to their tastes, but that doesn’t mean that everyone else is overrating a film.

Sinners is the first Tarantino movie by actual black people and we get precious few movies made by black writer-directors with black stars that have budgets etc. So we don't get a lot to compare it to.

There are a million cheap horror movies by white boys and most of them suck ass. Like, ass ass ass. Nothing but ass. This might as well be Jaws by comparison.

This movie wasn’t scary until I had a dream she was in the corner of my room.

This is a run of the mill mid horror of which we get dozens of every year.

Does no one else have an issue with the terrible cinematography, terrible acting from the male lead?

  • wonder if studios will start releasing more low to mid-budget "fatal attraction" type films after the success of this and housemaid from last year.

Very tightly storyboarded/shotlisted which isn't the norm for cheapo horror. Lots of considered compositions. The lighting is also intentional and changes according to intent. Curry Barker didn't personally decide that this generation of movies would be underlit and shot in shallow close up. He's just putting it to better use than the people who fall victim to it.

His performance was very funny. I found the whole movie fun/funny. The dark stuff doesn't resonate less because of it.

Hokum was really underrated or slept on partially due to this . But also because its less virality . Audience cant project into it as much

found it very interesting in the film how depending on light, makeup and hair she can be white-passing in one scene and very clearly asian in another tbh, one of those faces that seems to morph a lot.

really liked her character and wish she'd had more scenes tbh hope she's getting some good roles now
