Eggers got them wiped down
midsommar and eddington genuinely say with me, the rest of his movies lowkey feel a little too reliant on the shock spectacle
Think that’s what I like most about them? Hereditary is tremendous but I get a kick out of the shenanigans in Beau and Eddington
someone jokingly said this is why we need MTV movie awards back and I agree
sorry but its more fitting she gets something like that.
theres gotta be something besides a f***ing oscar everytime we see an elite acting performance
Allied to 262.8M cume in the US, the horror made for under 1M and acquired by #Focus for 15M, hits a 474.8M Global cume, beating #ItChapterTwo’s 473.1M Global run as the new #5 highest grossing horror EVER.

barker sweep
bear really kept shorty trapped in some type of purgatory while sleeping with her against her will like a creep, and got his whole friend group smoked in the process, only to off himself and leave her alone to pick up the pieces and likely be charged with murder lol f\*\*\* this nigga
also those handful of moments where she would snap out of it and be like “what the F***?!” were nuts
i feel so bad for her bruh that s*** was insane
went into this with somewhat low expectations but rly enjoyed it
this to me is how you make effective horror - simple concept based on a relatable situation, but taken to an eerie extreme.
Navarette's performance was the make or break for the whole thing and she delivered a homerun for sure, but I also appreciate that there's definitely layers to the on the surface fairly simple story.
I appreciate the obvious but still imo deep overarching message that you can't "own" the person you love and your fantasy "perfect" version of them is not what you would actually want - you love people because they fascinate and surprise you and also because they live and change. it's definitely exposing a lot of toxic immature expectations for a relationship there.
I also found it interesting at first that after Nikki is replaced the relationship is obviously weird and toxic, but it first seems almost more like Bear maybe got weak boundaries and letting himself be abused by an overly needy partner in his desperate want for love (I've also seen a lot of ppl note how Fake Nikki's behaviour mirrors a partner w BPD), but then it increasingly becomes clear that in fact he's just insanely selfish and abusive for keeping her in this state and in fact really is taking advantage of the situation just as his friends say.
The whole concept of Nikki being kept in a type of purgatory while her body is taken over by a slave demon is absolutely insane and horrifying to imagine. One of the only shortcomings of the film imo is that you're so stuck in Bears perspective when this perspective would've arguably been so much more scary but I also get that pulling it off would've probably required a larger budget.
the version of this movie that explores just how traumatizing it was Nikki probably gets put in the Library of Congress or something
I think for Gen Z women it'd be the best movie of the century nfs
Just saw this , he didn’t even have to use the willow man
You think she liked him?

Famously the generation to not got to the movies and simultaneously make Letterboxd a phenomenon

You’re out of touch if you think the contrary. Millennials haven’t made an app popular since Instagram. If you’re pretending the the post-covid zoomer wave of “cinephiles” haven’t made movies hip again idk what to tell you
Letterboxd was something shared between niche Reddit board users before zoomers found it and propelled it to a must-have app

I mean I don't put alot of stock in these generational demarkers but the phrase zoomers made movies hip again sounds ludicrous
All the people who marched in here to call this mid while Midrooms has been allowed to exist in peace

At least we're moving on from Eggers vs Aster

Younger audiences have always been the primary consumers of movies/theaters. Why do you think that’s changed since Letterboxd has been around? The basis that younger people gave up on movies was never true
