  • Elsewhere in the interview, the North Carolina-based recording artist explained the problematic comments about the LGBTQ+ community he made last year while on stage at Rolling Loud that quickly got him (temporarily) cancelled. "If I didn't mean what you think I meant, what you want me to do?" Baby asked those who don't believe that he didn't intend to do harm with what he said.

"Go look myself in the mirror and say, 'You did mean that,' and be like 'You did mean that you don't like gay people?' I'm not tripping on gay people, I'm not tripping at all," he clarified. "If I say what I say to get people to raise their cellphones and its misinterpreted by people who watch a 5-second clip at home, you not supposed to understand what's going on, you not supposed to be able to digest a clip that was shortened or altered with a narrative to go along with it, it's going to do what it does."

We live in an age where communication travels exponentially further than it ever could, and exponentially more so as a celebrity. Right or wrong, the interpretation always trumps the intent. If you don’t like how your words were interpreted, listen, understand why they were interpreted that way, choose your words better next time.

It honestly doesn’t sound to me like he’s particularly interested in learning the nuance there, but it also does seem apparent that he didn’t mean harm. Regardless, people who immediately resort to “the world is against me,” “they tried to control what I could say,” etc. the instant they f*** up rather than accepting any kind of blame are an unfortunate norm nowadays and I’m not really trying to give any of them any energy going forward.

I think if anything this whole thing shows he hasn’t separated cultural homophobia from personal opinion. It’s a good nuance to understand for any of us, but again I’m not really seeing any intention to dig into it on his part

Was it a “temporary cancellation” if his recent album just went triple styrofoam?

  • Mans said he lost 30 mil over this incident. Yeah canceling is real
