Interview with Anthony Fantano a few months ago, check comments for timemark

Dude sounds so bummed that he hasn't put out that second song.

Imagine writing and finishing two of the greatest songs of your career and not getting to put it out because the band you wrote them with is stingy.

Didnt he say they combined two songs? (Verse and hook of Instant Crush each being different originally)

For Instant Crush, yeah, but they have a second full song they did together.

Julian apparently tracked Thomas down in 2014/2015 and asked him specifically to release it.

Heard nothing from Thomas. Think he is more intrtested in film (according to Julian Casablancas a few months ago)

It seemed to be Guy Man pushing the Weeknd and Kanye collabs

    I see

So Guy-Man is the only one who might continue the whole music thing... I do look forward to what's next from both of them

oh of course, the amount of work they released in the past 7 years must’ve taken a lot of time away from their families

I do think at some point they're going to come out of retirement. They haven't worked on anything as a daft punk since 2017 and they probably didn't have any plans to release music in the next few years so it was a smart marketing move to announce their retirement. Puts them back in the headlines and increase their sales while creating a crazy comeback opportunity in the future.

dawg they can do whatever they want I’m not even a massive df fan. I just found it funny how they’ve had 0 output in the last 7 years and allegedly retired to spend more time with their fam. obv I don’t know them personally but on surface level it’s funny.

    all the power to them

I think they were really working on music the past 8 years but they probably didn't Make anything satisfying and I guess they called it quits because they didn't want to release something sub par

  • Mar 14, 2021

And since they paid their projects with their own money they could just cancel at any moment

I don’t think they need that publicity though, every single year there are daft punk tour, single rumours etc, if they hadn’t retired and announced a tour or performance or single/album the internet would be going nuts regardless

tbh artists never stop or take breaks, even more ppl like daft punk - i wonder however how many projects during those years went into production

    Since 2014:

Thomas produced 4 songs, made a solo song, and co-wrote/produced 2 songs and mastered an album for -M-. Guy-Manuel co-wrote and produced 3 songs. Daft Punk as a duo wrote 4 songs and produced 3 of those 4.

That's definitely not a lot, but it's not nothing
