    • Dame talks about he and Jay partnered up with some Russians to help fund Rocawear. He claims he should've did a licensing deal with the Russians and owned everything instead of giving them part ownership. (at the 17:22 mark)

    • Dame named it Rocawear to piss off Lyor because he didn't want Lyor to make money from it. Then Dame used the marketing money for every artist to market Rocawear and started laughing at Lyor as he was banking. This made Lyor even more mad and he later created the 360 deal where the label gets a piece of everything, especially merchandising. (at the 33:18 mark).

    • Dame was making $3-4 million per from Roc-a-Fella as an executive but he started considering Roc-a-Fella as his marketing budget to promote Rocawear. (at the 34:05 mark)

    • Rocawear was selling $500-$600 million worth of clothes and earning $40 million per year at it's peak. (at the 31:25 mark)

    • Dame talks about how he was more passionate about fashion working at Rocawear and eventually got tired of dealing with morons in the music industry who didn't really care about the music. (at the 27:04 mark)

    • Dame talks about how he sold his interest in Rocawear after they started releasing collared shirts with the baseball hats. He felt that it was getting corny and Jay-z as well the rest of the board were going in a direction he didn't like. He also wanted to get more into design. (at the 24:20 mark)

Dame sold his stake in Rocawear for $22 million cash + 8 million in controlling stakes in other Rocawear spinoffs and brands and later started his own stuff.

    hindsight is a mf

but it wasn't a complete failure

If you ask me, he got out at the perfect time

I gotta watch this in full

always love when Dame stops pissing people off enough to give insights on business.

I feel like he could be helping this new crop of artists directly and give a lot to the game.
but like he said, there's a lot of people in the music industry that don't give a damn about the music.

    yup

Apparently he wanted to get out when Tommy Hilfiger offered to buy the company for $400 million.

Dame would've gotten paid 40 million+ but Jay announced his S. Carter brand and that killed the deal since Hilfiger wanted Jay to be involved.

He wanted to go more into luxury and wanted to diversify.

He later used some of the money from selling Rocawear to invest into a women's clothing brand called Rachel Roy, named after his wife at the time.

yea but Lyor took it on the artists and created the 360 deal after he saw how much money Rocawear was making.

Dame lowkey helped f*** alot artists career by antagonizing Lyor lol
