I'm not a fan of DAMN. But it's better than the new one for sure.

DAMN. nice too and i wouldn’t argue with anybody who likes it more, I think with them two more than his other projects it just come down to preferences. sonics and pure raps, go with DAMN. Creativity and concepts, go with Mr. Morale.

damn kendrick fans turned into what everyone said cole fans were apparently if you don’t like an album or a song of his then you don’t really “understand” rap

Ngl....I'm a Kendrick fan but some niggas really are sounding like carbon copies of Cole fans when KOD came out.

"You'd rather listen to mumble rap."

"Cole is too deep for the mainstream."

"You need a certain level of intelligence to appreciate Cole."

"KOD is underrated because it's not glorifying d**** and violence."

I remember these arguments like it was yesterday on social media when KOD came out, especially in the height of the feud with Lil Pump.

That said, I still prefer MMTBS over DAMN because DAMN took a while to grow on me outside of some cuts whereas I felt MMTBS after just 2 listens in the same year.

But sheesh...just seeing niggas claiming they're disappointed over Kendrick who's a mainstream Interscope artist adding The Heart 5 to the album was just too much for me.

i’m getting told i don’t like rap and never grew up with it from a white guy no less cos i don’t like mr morale. it’s kind of crazy how kendrick with this album is saying i’m not that saviour of hip hop and just a regular nigga but they still want to attack niggas about not liking “real rap”. i think people still are recovering from the fact kendrick isn’t who they thought he is

Yup. Kendrick just wants to be seen as an innovative mainstream rapper who happens to be conscious rather than some type of savior of hip hop or Black people.

Maybe we're just desperate for a figure like that to emerge in these difficult times where racial strife is high and tragedies are occurring left and right but Kendrick is still an artist signed to a major label at the end of the day.

You want a Black leader? Rally around Stacey Abrams or somebody like that. Want hip hop to be "saved?" Stream and spend money on the niggas that you feel are decent.

It's not Kendrick's job to play a role that he never signed up for.

The results in the OP are interesting. I see an overwhelming vocal majority on here saying MM is a step down and Kendrick fell off but it has almost double the likes

Surprisingly enough I'm leaning Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

i don't even think that role needs to be filled

    why need it?

i don't think an artist needs to perpetuate an image of something bigger larger than life, because much like Mr morale delineates: you're a human first. you f*** up, you make mistakes, you're a walking contradiction, a hypocrite, you roll in the dirt and learn from it.

we have to speak for ourselves than have a sole voice entirely speaking for us.

statistical minorities are normally more vocal when expressing the reasons behind their discontent than a majority is to explain why they like something

  • May 28, 2022

I never really liked Damn, mr.morale was much better to me.
