New Danny song with idles out today. Idles album this year was a top 15 for me, very good art punk. Didn't see a post about the new song with Danny though so I hope this is the right spot to put it

I wish quaranta was more focused on its aesthetic and wasn’t afraid to go as dark as it could’ve, feels like a weakness of uknowhatimsayin too where the album could just be a whole unique piece with its own world but Danny wants to make sure it appeals across the board

Like keep it to me and numbers on the OG, and taking out s*** like dark sword angel would’ve made it such a unique piece in his discog and strong as hell, but it feels like the message of the album is a bit watered down because something like shakedown doesn’t feel like a payoff to a dark point in the album like it should. Down with me is the best documentation of what that hard time was like for Danny that made it, and I get if he doesn’t wanna perform those darker tracks but like if that’s the case just make it longer

If the tracklist was something like this + numbers it would be a very focused effort with a clear arc and unique sound and aesthetic u can get absorbed into that properly documents how he describes those years were like for him and I think it would make a way more effective piece of art
Although quaranta is still good but that holds it back from being what it could’ve been which was a project that stands alongside xxx and ae
Could still put dark sword angel and tantor of course too tho but in such a short tracklist it feels weird

think this quite clearly shows the arc he was tryna communicate more fleshed out, stays short, dark, and keeps this consistent thing he was tryna do of the more old school dusty sound reflecting the title being 40. would also add numbers after keep it to me or shakedown ideally but ik why he didnt for personal reasons. would be my 3rd or 2nd fav prolly if it was like this

Both of them are good albums that are lacking overall to me

problem with old is its bloated af and the two discs thing makes it difficult to play front to back
