I saw a post on here regarding the Dark Lane Demo Tapes album cover, and how it is representative of Michael Jackson's "Dangerous" album cover.
However, I have been wondering for some time if it also might be a representation of Hannibal Lecter, from Silence of the Lambs (or the book, Red Dragon).
"All media in which Lecter appears portray him as intellectually brilliant, cultured and sophisticated, with refined tastes in art, music and cuisine. He has an eidetic memory with which he has constructed in his mind an elaborate "memory palace" with which he relives memories and sensations in rich detail."
These traits are similarly shared with Drake. Aubrey has a passion for cuisine, the arts, and music. Furthermore, he paints vivid pictures through his verses, a memory palace, of sorts.
Lastly, Roger Ebert described Hannibal Lecter by saying, "One key to the film's appeal is that audiences like Hannibal Lecter...He may be a cannibal, but as a dinner party guest he would give value for money (if he didn't eat you). He does not bore, he likes to amuse, he has his standards, and he is the smartest person in the movie..."
Many online users criticize Drake's music, but they can't help but like him at the same time. They know he is a taste maker for music, his moves are calculated, he is often many steps ahead of his counterparts, and his persona is that of mystery and intrigue.
I'm just speculating, but could it be that the Dark Lane Demo Tapes draws a bit of inspiration from the iconic Hannibal Lecter photo?
