They had a lot of bad label issues/sample clearance stuff too tho
I know but what I’m saying is that was spearheaded by the higher ups specifically because of who they are. NWA never had sample problems not because they sampled less, but because they fit the agenda
I just don’t think it’s a coincidence
This album was fantastic off first listen. Not going to even front like I’ve listened to everything that’s dropped this year but out of all the “mainstream” rap albums this was the best off my first impression. Really happy they dropped such a beautiful and fun body of work
Dave?
I feel like this is just not as fly as it needs to be. I know they old but that doesn't mean they can't be fly. Needed tip on the boards more or something idk
It's still fire tho, just lacking in oldhead swag
I SPEAK DIVINE OF GOD’S THEORY IT’S NO NEED TO BE HIGH
This s*** already got me crying man lol.
This transition from Will To to The Package

3 Feet High And Rising had so many samples for its time. It was released the same year as, but a few months before Paul's Boutique which had probably twice as many samples. Both of these albums are extremely influential in sample based Hip Hop and sample based music in general. De La's second album was a commercial disappointment upon its release compared to their debut, and I remember buying Buhloone Mind State in high school and NOBODY knew or cared about that album. Not until I played it for them at least, but the general public just wasn't interested in De La Soul anymore it seemed. Even if they were promoted properly by Tommy Boy, gangsta rap ruled the world in the early 90's, and a lot of people looked at groups like De La as being soft and corny. Tribe somehow made it through this era unscathed. I think Tommy Boy mishandled De La. They definitely took advantage of them financially. It's hard to say if the message of De La was intentionally sabotaged by the industry, or if it was due to Tommy Boy just giving up on them and not feeling like clearing all those samples for streaming would be a lucrative business move. I do agree there is a conspiracy in the industry though to promote d****, violence, and misogyny. I remember the outcry of parents, politicians, etc over acts like NWA and 2 Live Crew back in the 80's and early 90's. Nowadays material like that is the industry standard. It's like they realized how influential and damaging it could be and decided to start promoting it rather than fighting it. I love NWA, but I agree with Special Ed's comments about them. The culture changed for the worse, especially after Efil4zaggin. I never really considered De La being intentionally erased from history due to their messages as part of the conspiracy, but that's an interesting theory, and I wouldn't put it past the industry.
Pinned.

Ruthless Records/Jerry had 100000000x the deeper pockets that Tommy Boy Records had.
And you gotta remember De La already had trouble literally after 3 Feet High And Rising.
Tommy Boy was just a s***ty label, it wasnt part of this fbi to keep conscious rap extinct lol
Man this such a heartfelt album man. The whole s*** from the title to the songs just a big farewell to Dave.
and f*** Tommy Boy them niggas just suck! -Nore
NOBODY liked them Crackers lol
I'll give a few more listens to make sure I'm not a prisoner of the moment.....but I wanna say this is their best album since Stakes Is High
BTW, I know younger fans aren't that familiar with their work because of the streaming issue they had......I strongly encourage y'all to check their entire catalog out. Buhloone Mindstate is probably their most accessible so maybe start there. They deserve SO MUCH more recognition that they get. That's were literally up there with Tribe, Wu, Kast, etc and Tommy Boy did serious damage to their legacy by keeping them off digital platforms for so long
