it’s sick and i don’t know much about him outside his music but i really believe some people get rich, powerful and famous cause they know people around them will protect them and they’ll get away with whatever they want

I think he's garbage but he was basically the ideal 2020s artist as far as labels are concerned:

1. In the church choir from a young age, already trained in music (incredibly rare these days and labels are evidently not willing to train up established artists)
2. Combines a wide range of musical styles for mass appeal / market adaptability (he has made music he describes as hyperpop, drill, country, rock, shoegaze, indie, basically every subgenre. Some of these are cap on his part but his audience isn't savvy enough to care)
3. Came up making Fortnite clips so he has a natural connection to streamers and streaming culture
4. The same elusive Nerd/Femboy/Thug mix as XXXTentacion that covers every base of youth culture today

It's easy to see why the industry invested so much in him. It's like he was grown in a lab to appeal to Gen Z. This was a once-in-a-generation opportunity for them and they fumbled it.

We were once part of one of the biggest fan pages/blogs in the music industry at one point. So much so that it was flooded with undercover industry people. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was a community interested in cool music, fashion and funny inside jokes related to MUSIC.

Crazy to think people thought we were nuts but gen z makes everything weirder ngl. Cause now the equivalent of that means stalking mfs on discord servers and harassing people celebs know trying to group buy leaked songs and even texts messages or close friends posts. Everything about being a fan has become way more about personal s*** than anything else. It started with playboi carti, which is why I give his weirdo fans such a hard time.

I’m not even shocked that this era is the one where something like this situation is even possible to get this far.

Was 2020 really a permanent shift for the worst and can we even return to an ktt1 esque fandom again?
