Based on the book by Joan Didion, a veteran D.C. journalist (Anne Hathaway) loses the thread of her own story when a guilt-propelled errand for her father (Willem Dafoe) who is dying, thrusts her from byline to unwitting subject in the very story she’s trying to break.

Strange that this movie is getting such an early release. Seems telling that it probably won't be very good, similar to how another acclaimed director's project with Netflix, Triple Frontier, turned out

Probably due to it premiering at Sundance like Mudbound did

well the fact Mudbound was a big indie hit and now she got Anne Hathaway, Willem Dafoe, and Affleck, it seems weird to me that this isn't gong to be pushed as a prestige release in the later months.

Only thing I can think of is that Netflix bought Mudbound at Sundance whereas Netflix made this movie

It is I think the same case for Triple Frontier. JC Chandor made critically loved hits like A Most Violent Year and All is Lost and then got the biggest A list cast he has had yet and it got bought by Netflix and turned into a March release and the final film was not good.

Netflix can clearly market a film like this for oscars if they wanted to. Hell, they just got 16 nominations off 2 movies. This tells me they don't have faith in this.
