This isn't even about race, or what country someone is from. It's about freedom, which is the single word that sums up this country at its most ideal form.
The fact that we don't have an official language is one of the greatest touchstones of our freedom. Language is expression. Making an official language just dumbs down the melting pot of this country to put anyone who doesn't speak english, or doesn't speak it well, at a literally legal disadvantage and not just a real one as it is now.
What if Mexicans became the majority in this country. Should spanish now become the official language? It's an idiotic line of debate and yes I incited which I'm regretting but that's my last word in the discussion.

This is what I meant when I said people use the lack of an official language as a symbol. I don't care about that. The same people talking about freedom will be the same people trying to take rights away from women, minorities, lgbt, etc. Same people talkin bout freedom will be co-signing the U.S. playing imperialist all over the world. It means nothing.
As the other person said, having an official language doesn't mean you're forced to speak that, so how is it putting people down and you're literally already at a disadvantage if you don't speak it anyway so what are you talking about?

What’s a benefit of making English the official language? Why force people to change how they communicate when they’re able to function on a daily basis speaking the language they’re comfortable with? It’s the year of our lord 2020. I can translate the tweet of random dude in China in one second on Twitter. It doesn’t take that much effort to make s*** accessible for everybody. The US has been doing to just fine for a long time, so why force that change? It’s just an unnecessary way to make s*** more difficult for minorities disguised as some weirdly fetishized form of linguistic patriotism.
