    Hi-C

I’ve been meaning to get tested for so f***ing long. Went to a counselor on campus my senior year before Rona and he threw it out and then I had to stop going because of everything shutting down and never went back.

It keeps running in my mind, like how long have I been living like this struggling in school, making it impossible to study or do work. Not to mention this lack of energy and forgetting s*** all the time. Not once did I attribute it to ADHD. It kind of pisses me off but I can’t do anything about it now. Just how my life is, just feel like I’ll have to play catch up.

I need to figure out where to get tested seriously because I’m struggling at my current job because I get so f***ing bored and am unable to concentrate and s***

ADHD is over-diagnosed in the US because of big pharma and psychologists/psychiatrists are usually reluctant to diagnose someone with adult ADHD because they do not want to come across as phony and because lack of concentration is a common symptom across many mental disorders like depression or anxiety. If you were above 21 and a doctor diagnosed you with ADHD, I’d seek another opinion

Yeah I’m well aware of the over diagnosis of it. It’s not just a lack of concentration, it’s a number of other things. Regardless, it causes me a lot of difficulty. Like there are so many things reflecting back in my life that would lead me to believe I have it. I hate to self diagnose because it’s problematic but I need to know for sure because I want to work at it and at least get some type of treatment, even if it isn’t necessarily ADHD.

people still sometimes use ADD to refer to ADHD (inattentive subtype) but it’s an outdated term at this point

    get a diagnosis

i was 20 or 21 when i finally got mine

i’d had all the symptoms of the inattentive subtype since i was little, but my dad had that attitude of “adhd is overdiagnosed it’s all just big pharma” so i just had to deal with it as a kid. it’s a lot more manageable after getting diagnosed. even before getting treatment/medication, just knowing makes it easier.

I have some very close friends with ADHD. What they did was took the medication as prescribed for the first few weeks or months, eased off of it, then started to to moderate how often they used it on their own once they understood how it effected them.

But ADHD isn’t a horribly bad thing. It can be distracting when you need to calm down and focus, but the ones with it I’ve known are very charismatic and cool to be around. That depends on the severity of course.

Just start the meds and take it from there.

whenever i take them i think too much. i become more focused but since quarantine i feel it hasn't been necessary to focus or think too much

I have anxiety and adhd it too without the hyperactive part. For years now, but i havent been to a doctor about any of it yet.

But ive been wondering am i missing out on making my life easier with some meds. Its not like its going bad rn but i do often feel like im limited by constantly having to fight it in my mind

Been diagnosed and on the meds since elementary, s*** sucks op it kinda forces you to be extra on top of things or else you'll fall back into old habits (situation im in rn). Weed helps a lot but also can make s*** 10x worse. It's really important to schedule out your days and try to follow it strictly for at least 2 weeks. It gets easier to deal with, with proper planning but man is it hard to get out of a rut

  • Jan 30, 2021

take your meds as needed, not everyday, find what works for you and be careful with them

  • adhd not real don't dare get on meds

  • sabbaroni

don’t listen to your friends about this, the meds help. they aren’t perfect, but they do help when you need them.

congrats on the diagnosis though. it’s a lot easier to deal with once you know what you’re dealing with. don’t let it scare you. you’ve always known something was different, and now you can finally say you know what it is. it’s not a positive or negative, it’s just a different way of being.

Its harsh cause my parents kept it secret from me ya know like all the yrs i been complaining bout insomnia or teacher complaints bout being too active

  • PLO nightingale

Are they really your friends if they know you've been suffering, and they don't want to see you get better?

Even my parents znd gf fam cause it would numb me
