just saw this in his Spotify artist description of cloud rap pioneer Cartier God. claims to be creator of "drip" and "splash". former would be a pretty huge claim...

when you look into it, apparently Sauce Walka claims to have popularized today's usage of drip in 2014 with "Flava in ya Ear", even did an interview w Genius about it and is the one credited for it on knowyourmeme too, one of the few sites to try document online slang history.

Now Cartier got a song called "I Created Drip in 2010" on 2020 album "Water Lingo" on which he raps

Ocean Gang did start in 2010 and it does seem to make sense, his first solo mixtapes from 2013 and 2014 are also called "Futuristic Oceanic" and "The Block is WET", him actually using drip in titles at least is only after the boom of the word in 2018 tho...

his entire thing in the first phase of his career seems to have been water lingo. but I haven't listened to any of this early music yet so wondering if anyone can confirm Ocean Gang rly influenced today's usage of "drip"
