KOD was definitely a step back towards pop-rap Cole

compared to 4YEO maybe but those last two records are nowhere near as mainstream-friendly as FHD, there are like two memorable hooks on KOD

yall really judge that album cause of it's singles and it's annoying. Give me a 'pop rap' album which have songs like FEAR., PRIDE, DUCKWORTH, LUST

I’d personally say it was. KOD, ATM, Motiv8, Kevin’s Heart (maybe), and 1985 have mainstream appeal imo

I think it gave lyrical spiritual rappers a formula to make appealing music while still having artistic vision

Cole's sound has become less and less mainstream since FHD

Kendrick been doing it for years I'm surprised just now rappers are starting to catch up
Cartoons & Cereal is the perfect example for that

    DAMN is pop rap?

    This.

Idk who came up with this narrative

  • Apr 17, 2020

KOD definitely tried to be more mainstream and Cole was doing those aye flows Kendrick was doing on DAMN.
James Blake last album also went in a more hip hop and mainstream direction, can't tell u if it's because of Kendrick but he worked with him on DAMN. and BP

HUMBLE, and LOVE. only rest of the songs were successful but it don't mean they got mAiNsTrEAm aPPeAl

Loyalty, DNA, GOD also have mainstream appeal c'mon take your stan glasses off

  • Apr 17, 2020

Kendrick is the standard so whatever he imitators doing, Kendrick started

  • Apr 17, 2020

Idk about that, but I was thinking about it and DAMN is probably the biggest album drop since
Obviously Scorpion did bigger first week numbers but the actual anticipation and expectation for the album was higher for the general public than any album since
