I decided to investigate his claim from the Big Boy interview further (apologies in advance for this thumbnail)
I looked into each artist he named specifically, as well as who he chose not to name, and some of the pushback he got on it
I was pretty excited to get to talk about Ye for music-related purposes, also I expect this audience on here will prob know most of what I'm talking about but I'm curious what y'all think!
No.
what about the artists he specifically named? drake, travis, thug, future, and the weeknd
Not the wipe me down genre
agreed. and also like the snap era, the ringtone rap era, the soulja boy type s***. all of that seemed pretty unrelated to what Ye had going on (imo)
yes
i think he has a pretty strong case for all the artists he named directly!

I don’t think 100% the case for Future and Thug since they were mostly inspired by Southern music in general. But he definitely had a direct influence on Weeknd, Travis, and Drake.

Influencing artists is not the same as inventing a genre. Come on man.
