Power seems to be out entirely now

I’m not experiencing any power issues besides the regularly scheduled powercuts that finished a few hours ago. Also haven’t been hearing anything about blackouts happening rn so this might just be an isolated incident
(All that fuel stuff is accurate though)

Yeah reddit users are clarifying now. They’re saying the same thing you were
“Sri Lankan here, it's terrifying yes and we had 13 hour power cuts back in March but rn we have only 3 hour power cuts (1.5 hours in the morning, 1.5 hours in the evening).”
“the grid is split into zones and they swap it around every week so the time is different. plus the zones are really big and cover so it's difficult discriminate like that. early on there were no power cuts in the capital because it's economic hub and contributes about 40% of the county's gdp. that doesn't happen anymore”
Building one nuclear plant would theoretically solve the country’s entire power crisis wouldn't it?

No expert but theoretically I don’t see why not, though it’s so far out of our ability to fund something like that ourselves

I heard a while ago there were plans to build one and I mean if they’re already taking aid from other countries, why not take the step? It’d make major progress in fixing the country

Problem is the aid we’re receiving right now is barely covering our essentials for the next few months, so that’s something they really gotta figure out first and hopefully with the president stepping down countries are more generous with what they can offer. I agree that finding renewable energy solutions should absolutely be a priority though

Here’s hoping your next president puts the needs of the people over the need to impress the world with extreme green initiatives (even tho ironically nuclear energy is about as sustainably green as it gets)
