Some of y'all may know Sisqo from Dru Hill. I didn't know about him until a few months ago but his first couple albums were really good. At the time Sisqo was rising, Usher was the main male R&B star tho. By the time Sisqo came onto the scene Usher had already released his super successful album My Way. Sisqo had his solo debut 2 years later with Unleash the Dragon.

From what I can tell Usher was his closest competitor, and was always that one or two steps ahead. I also noticed Sisqo seemed very egotistical which people must not have liked about him.

In one interview he said:

Speaking to the New York Daily News, Sisqo claimed: “You think you’re the man, buddy. I’m the man. Usher cannot touch me. He ain’t even close.”
He went on: “I want everyone to know that no R&B artist can touch my skill. To this day, nobody can outsing me. I will sing anybody under the table.”

It seems like right after this was when Usher's career really took off as he became the biggest star of the 2000s, while Sisqo faded very quickly.

Sisqo started off pretty big but his ego ended him. His 1999 album went 5x platinum, 2001 album platinum, 2015 album nowhere

sisqo was always some weird ass person with an ego trying to elevate himself higher than he actually was. he wasn't that amazing of a singer compared to usher, but he had hits no one can deny. anyway, after usher dropped 8701 it showed the difference in skill between the two

TBH, Sisqo was never close to Usher, in terms of anything lol

don't think usher had that much to do with sisqo's demise. he just faded. happens. he had been in the game 5 years by the time that second solo dropped. 2002 dru hill dropped another album, it was mid, then they disappeared. 5 albums in 6 years? that's a decent amount of work there. Got some classic songs

I never got why he was dropped after his second solo album which didn't even flop that hard. I guess labels were a lot less forgiving back then.

I think they put a few million into some music video for a song that flopped really badly (at least in comparison to expectations). Afterwards they just dropped him

Sisqo's horrible 2nd album.ruined his solo career.

He should've went back and did another Dru Hill.album in hindsight.

Definitely Jam played a part by giving him his own imprint. Too much control too soon. That 2nd album was really weak.
