AUSA: Why'd you remain with Ms. Ventura after this incident?
Dawn Richard: I wanted her to feel supported.
    AUSA: What's this?
Dawn Richard: The Central Park event.
[Photo of Cassie in sunglasses - and Dawn Richard too]
AUSA: Why did you wear them?
    Dawn Richard: Solidarity

    More context and details:

Dawn Richard is testifed about a time in 2009 that she was at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ home in New York with Cassie Ventura and Kalenna Harper. Combs, Richard and Harper were in the musical trio Diddy – Dirty Money.

Diddy and Cassie got into an argument, and then “he punched her in the face,” Richard testified. Richard said Cassie went into the bathroom crying while Combs “walked off, angry.”

Richard said that Cassie’s eye was swollen, so she put on makeup and wore sunglasses to try to hide the injury.

The jury saw a photo of the three women wearing sunglasses in public after the alleged assault.

Richard said she and Harper also wore sunglasses “to have solidarity, to be a friend, to be a support system for someone who needed it.”

Dawn Richard: When we drove back to LA, he slapped Cassie in the mouth and told her to Shut the f*ck up.
AUSA: How did the passengers respond?
Dawn Richard: We stayed silent the rest of the ride.

    More context and details:

Dawn Richard testified about another occasion in which she says she saw Diddy punch Cassie – this time in the stomach, while at a restaurant.

Several people from the record label were present in the room at a dinner, and Diddy and Cassie had been arguing quietly, Richard said.

After Cassie bent over – reacting to the punch – Diddy directed her to leave, Richard said.

After leaving the restaurant, Richard testified, Diddy and Cassie were arguing in a car.

Cassie was “embarrassed” and told Diddy he shouldn’t have done that in public, Richard said.

“He grabbed her by the neck and popped her, slapped her in the mouth,” and told her to shut up, she testified.

Security personnel who were present in the car didn’t do anything, and the rest of the car ride was quiet, Richard testified.

Richard later testified in cross-examination that R&B singers Usher, Ne-Yo and Beats Electronics co-founder Jimmy Iovine were among the celebrities who were at the restaurant that day.

AUSA: Did you see Mr. Combs using d****?
Dawn Richard: Yes. Weed, ketamine, Molly, cocaine
    AUSA: Opiates?
Dawn Richard: That, I never saw.
AUSA: Who brought him the d****?
Dawn Richard. One Stop. He had it all, including Plan B, birth control

    More context and details:

Dawn Richard testified that she “often” saw Diddy Combs taking d****, including weed, ketamine, and cocaine. She didn’t see him take opiates, she testified.

The d**** were delivered to the studio by a certain man, and Combs kept them in a Louis Vuitton toiletry bag that “went everywhere, from domestic to overseas,” she said.

Richard also saw Diddy frequently carrying a handgun, she testified.

He’d typically place the gun on his lower back, she said. Two of his bodyguards also carried handguns in the same place, she testified.

Combs' Westmoreland: The songs you're released on your own have not reached the level of what you released with Danity Kane and Diddy Dirty Money, right?
    Dawn Richard: True.
Westmoreland: And you reach out to Mr. Combs to try to make more money, right?
    Dawn Richard: Yes

    Dawn Richard: I don't recall.
Westmoreland: Your testimony has changed on quite few things.
Dawn Richard: As time progresses I remember more.

    More context and details:

Defense attorney Nicole Westmoreland is going over a portion of Dawn Richard’s testimony from Friday, in which she said she witnessed Diddy attack Cassie when she was cooking him eggs in the kitchen of his California home in 2009.

Westmoreland has suggested that Richard’s account of this incident has changed over time.

On Friday, Richard testified she saw Diddy attempting to strike Ventura with the skillet, but Ventura ducked and fell to the floor into the fetal position.

In a demand letter to Diddy in 2024, Richard’s lawyers asserted that she heard the frying hit the wall, but didn’t witness the altercation.

Richard said she wasn’t aware of what claims her lawyers made on her behalf.

In an October 2024 interview, Richard told prosecutors Diddy actually struck Ventura with a frying pan, Westmoreland said, citing government notes from the interview.

In another interview with prosecutors, Richard said Diddy threw the eggs at Ventura, not using the pan.

On the stand today, Richard said she’s recounted the incident over time to the best of her memory.

  • Dawn Richards getting caught lying and being money hungry on the stand won’t help but it doesn’t negate what she saw / heard

    rather late

The discourse around this is so bad now

I swear men and ignorant women will look for ANY reason to smear a victim

See so many people calling cassie an accomplice

The way social media is framing things, people are making it look like she's on trial too.

One of my homies asked a question I figured it would be easy to find a answer on here. Did Cassie cheat/leave Ryan Leslie for Diddy? Or did Diddy force her to leave him?

    Diddy basically dirty mack'd him.

    Dawn Richard: True.
Westmoreland: And you reach out to Mr. Combs to try to make more money, right?
    Dawn Richard: Yes

    More context and details:

Dawn Richard confirmed that the musical groups she was a part of, Danity Kane and Diddy — Dirty Money, both went platinum.

She testified that she felt “saddened” by Diddy deciding to dismantle both of those groups and confirmed that the music she’s released since hasn’t reached the same level of success.

Danity Kane was formed by Diddy as part of the MTV reality series “Making the Band,” and Diddy — Dirty Money was a trio that included Richard, Combs and singer Kalenna Harper.

“You felt like Diddy ruined your career, not once, but twice?” defense attorney Nicole Westmoreland asked.

    “Yes,” Richard testified.

Westmoreland asked Richard to admit that she filed a lawsuit against Combs to “get a lot of money.”

Richard said no, but said she wants to be “compensated for the work she put forth.”
