Almost all of his big hits rely on a sample of a past successful hit to a shameless level

The Police - Every Breath You Take
    Luniz - I Got 5 On It
Diana Ross - I’m Coming Out
    Fugees - Ready or Not
    Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
    Jackson 5 - I Want You Back
    Grandmaster Flash - The Message
The Isley Brothers - Between The Sheets
    Mtume - Juicy Fruit

Come to think of it he is carried either by a guest, a producer or a sample in every song he ever made

Do we believe the conspiracy theory that Diddy stole the idea to sample 'Between the Sheets' and 'Juicy Fruit' from Andre Nickatina's debut in 1993?

    Or just a coincidence?

Damn, this is crazy. I'm a fan of Andre and honestly never knew this... this is some egregious s***. It's no secret that Biggie and Diddy were tapped into the Bay area scene at the time too. Nah, f*** Diddy lol

At least we got classic Biggie songs though

ngl i see where ur coming from but nothing u said rly has anything to do with how much effort was actually put into the beats, like every oldschool producer samples that alone doesnt make u lazy necessarily

Some of these songs elevated the sample but a lot of them didn’t. Satisfy You f***ing sucks.

A lot of old school producers produce real simple but they usually either dig into records that aren’t huge hits or they change the beat to change the feel.

Diddy literally just reuses the hook for his new song.

  • Dec 12, 2025

Yes but tbf BIG completely changes the feel of the Mtume & Isley samples on Juicy and Big Poppa, that’s why they work

fair point, i dont disagree but i feel like even if a sample flip is lazy if it leads to a good song it doesnt rly matter

yup, some of my favorite beats ever are just 1-2 sections looped, f*** 'laziness' good music is good music

in the doc they highlight he sort of fosters in RNB music with more hard core rap production & aesthetic, not that he was hands on but like an EP I thought that was cool if true

He's not an actual producer he's an executive

He barely does anything on actual boards - he directs and/or comes up with a general idea, if you want to call it that

I have a couple friends i do this with, they tell me what to sample then i make the beat based on their guidance, it usually comes out amazing

isnt that one of the definitions of a music producer though? that youre directing the song and shaping it

  • Na he was an amazing executive producer. BIG popped in large part due to Puff. Biggie didn’t want to do Juicy, Big Poppa, One More Chance etc.. Puff saw the vision.

Terrible person—but hugely influential figure in rap history. Even the way he coached Bone Thugs for Notorious Thugs is impressive
