Making this thread for my brother Kam since he doesn’t have an account:
Clearly he’s talking about a woman which is obvious as much
But the new Diddy outro got me looking at the song differently

This outro with Drake’s vocals “taking me for granted I can tell” playing in the background also got me thinking it could double as a reflection of his standing in hip hop all time. Diddy calls him top 5 while Drake might be the most scrutinized artist the genre has ever seen, which could play into the “taking me for granted” angle
It’s giving me real Wu-Tang Forever vibes where the song is dressed up as a soft song about a woman but it doubles as a reflection of his standing in the game.
“Any confidence I came with you take it from me” is about his woman but also could be about the critics and naysayers at times too. The hook can double as how he wants the love from the hip hop community also “Love Me, Save Me, Tell Me, Try Me”
Tryna get me to spoil this song before it drops aren't you?
Nah but for real what does Diddy's outro signify in this theory? Like that he gets love from the greats but not from the plebs?

Kam:
I think the outro is Diddy giving him his flowers while he’s here. Somebody of Diddy stature who worked closely with BIG and other legendary acts saying Drake is up there with MJ and he’s top five all-time
Drake gets taken for granted a lot, his run gets downplayed. Diddy is doing the opposite of it here, he’s actually giving Drake his just due.

That's what I thought. Just making sure I was on the same page
You could really do this with a lot of Drake songs tbh
I was about to say this... aside from Wutang Forever, what songs do you also feel this way?
Keep The Family Close for me
was thinking some of it could be directed to hiphop after the cdq leaked. "any confidence I came with, you take it from me"
yo forreal if Drake replaces the Diddy outro with a introspective verse making it clear it is about the rap game
I can definitely see that allusion working more with Wu Tang Forever more than anything because, Drake's rap verse's swerve in and out the talk of his relationship with a woman and rap. I can see this being the case for Lie To Me, but Wu Tang Forever is more direct.

The Motion is the one I think of

that would be amazing.
“Lose You” is still the most direct (and imo best) song in which Drake has addressed this kind of content.

I was thinking this but it's very direct. The hook could be a double meaning but the verses make it pretty obvious
it makes perfect sense, otherwise that diddy outro doesn't fit the song if it's just about a girl

https://twitter.com/kameron_hay/status/1280349938069598210Thought this as well, I though it was an ode to the music game. I think he's explicitly looking to enter Jay-Z realm with this next album. He's looking for the full Rap & R&B respect of a great
ok this makes perfect sense. putting lie to me diddy edition back in rotation

one of his most overlooked tracks
Great theory. I hope there's a finished version of lie to me on the album
Also came itt to say that wu tang forever is top 5 Drake

Did you think it was out of place before this thread?
