F*** it, I just played Absolutely last week before this dropped but let me run it back to back wit this.
Still incredible, as amazing as baby is and it feels like a better project overall, Absolutely had higher highs for me

No song on Absolutely is touching Higher or Rewind for me. Both albums classics tho imo. Absolutely feels like a rough draft compared to this for me
Brown Sugar (1995) -> Voodoo (2000)
channel Orange (2012) -> Blonde (2016)
Absolutely (2021) -> Baby (2025)
Super interesting that all of these debut R&B albums were more traditional/contemporary in approach, then followed up 4-5 years later by an experimental/unconventional artistic statement
Is there a 2000s equivalent of this?
Justified -> FSLS
Pop but still

That’s a good description, I think I’m just biased because many times is probably one of my favorite songs ever and clicked immediately. Some songs on this could get in that tier though

Seeing as how he writes songs from the POV of his lovers sometimes I wouldn't be surprised if it's about himself from the perspective of his wife

Album was cool
what is my man even about
maybe a homie that was going through some s***? that’s how it reads to me at least
hate to be a bandwagoner but this is one of them ones. one of the best first listens ive had all year
You gotta stop thinking in those terms. Sometimes Real Music speaks for itself and blocks out all other noise

Instant classic, from the cover to the soundscapes and texture - this feels like one of those projects we’ll come back to in years and say it was the catalyst.
this is a pretty good album. lots of beautiful and stunning moments but it can feel too disjointed and structurally inconsistent at times imo…if 22 a million is your fav bon iver album i could see this being just as effective of a listen
Great project but I don't get the Blonde n Voodoo comparisons lol
Blonde because some of these tracks got no drums and cause at the beginning of his career he sounded like frank a bit (no srsly that really is why they saying it without saying it)
Voodoo because of the way he layers his harmonies like crazy and delivers his lyrics intentionally that we dont really be understanding what the hell nigga is saying 1st listen through (this actually makes sense)
