In no particular order, adding more as they come to mind:

    Yorgos Lanthimos
    Jeremy Saulnier
    Gaspar Noe (his best work)
    Alex Garland
    Jia Zhangke
    Safdie Brothers
    Wes Anderson (solidified into parody)
    Ben Wheatley
    Bong Joon-ho (his best work)
Christopher Nolan (his most famous work)
    Dave Eggars
Ari Aster (for better or for worse)
    Jordan Peele
    Alex Ross Perry
Mike Flanigan (definitely for the worse, his color grading is everywhere now)
    Panos Cosmatos

I like his films generally, don’t get me wrong. Hereditary is great, the short films are great. Didn’t care for Midsommar but that’s w/e.

My wishy-washiness on him is hard to articulate, but I was being a lil facetious. I like that more difficult movies with D- audience scores will be greenlit because of him. One could argue the bullshit “prestige horror” debate starts with Hereditary, but thats not his fault.

The not-fully-formed gripe I have is that I think he, along with Jordan Peele and others, have unconsciously or accidentally fostered a kind of “easter egg” cinema, where the emotional experience of a film is sidelined in favor of spotting the most minute detail that could indicate the director has a hidden meaning or secret aspect to the plot that nobody else noticed.

I say unconsciously or accidentally because really it’s youtube exacerbating this s***. Stuff like “Us ENDING EXPLAINED” or “EVERYTHING YOU MISSED IN Hereditary”. Yesterday I saw a video with an insane amount of views that purported to explain who the “secret” third person with a signet ring in The Irishman. He’s in the first hour like a dozen times! Idk, I’m just ranting. It’s early. Merry Chrimmuh!

There's always some bullshit ass subtext to these thinkpieces w/e, don't bite. It's not the creators fault for the crowd they attract, it's always been like that

I don't buy into buzzwords and such, if I find something enjoyable then boom, why let let them spoil the fun. But I get it.... like fam, you're not alone in what you're saying, these niggas been ruining s*** lmao

    X-mas vibes

Idk if it's underrated as much as it's just not as known/accessible as a lot of other stuff. (His 3 features from this decade all received a great amount of praise.)

Goodbye to Language was on Netflix for over a year so it got some solid exposure, but Film Socialisme and The Image Book were only screened at festivals and overseas (IIRC). Luckily all 3 of them are available on blu-ray currently. And his several shorts from this decade vary in range when it comes to how easily you can find/watch them.

In regards to someone on that list being underrated this decade, I'd give that label to either Ferrara, Eastwood, or Malick most likely
