Good ass work
Wish Screw was still alive so people could ask him and talk to him about this stuff
But yeah incredible beat
Now the real question is what is the 25 lighters sample he scratches? It's not the og song.
what instrumental is this first track? this s*** so cold.

@Aquilla
DJ Screw had such a good ear for music
If he was still alive and off that purple drank, then he would've been a dope A&R
ok i need the full collection of tapes been meaning to download from internet archive but it went down
who can help a brother in need
I'm going through the full Diary of the Originator series and came across this on Chapter 25: Unpredictable last night.
Original song is super fast but it sounds incredible slowed down. One of many examples showing why Screw's ear is unmatched.

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hazRESlzgV0Can you post your thoughts as you go through the whole series?
Where are you at in the series currently?
What are some other stand outs and thoughts up to this point?
My bad for all the questions, I've been meaning to go through all the chapters for a long time so I'd love to talk to someone about that journey as they're making it

Happy to. Been meaning to blog more so this gives me a good reason to start again lol.
Been busy for the past month so I'm only up to Chapter 27 - Plots & Schemes. Highlight is definitely this 20 minute freestyle from Pokey, Keke and Moe. Need to figure out what beat this is:
A couple standouts from Chapter 26 - Blowin Big Behind Tint:
Mr. Mike - "Where Is Your Love"
Celly Cel - "It's Goin' Down"
Boogie Down Productions - "Loves Gonna Get Cha"
As for my thoughts, my main takeaway is how incredible and wide-ranging Screw's taste is. Even the above three songs are from Houston, Bay Area, and New York rappers (respectively). Some of them are super classics on their own (like "It's Goin Down" and the BDP song) but work even better or take on a new dynamic when slowed down (e.g. KRS' voice becomes even more booming).
The tapes and his selection on them bring me back to the mixtape days and the era of mix DJs on the radio, where we didn't have control over what the DJ would play and the result would be tons of pleasant surprises and new discoveries. It's an amazing way to find music you've never heard, re-discover music you haven't listened to in a while, or hear a familiar song in a whole new way.

Thank you so much, you don't know how much I would appreciate that
Do you have your own blog or would you be posting here or on some other site?
Whenever you do have time I'd love to hear your thoughts on the 1-25 and not just the ones going forward from 27
And yeah, that freestyle you linked is one of my favorite songs ever, the way Moe comes in at 13:56 is one of the most beautiful things I'll ever hear
@dubmaxx responded immediately so I missed the second half of your post
You're spot on, I see a lot of mention of Screw's taste but I absolutely love how you wrote about it, beautiful stuff

I used to have a blog that I haven't written on in years. Been thinking of starting a Substack, think I'm gonna do that before the end of year and write about Screw tapes there. I'll post the links in this thread

Had the pleasure of listening to this screw tape over the christmas break. The lil keke - southside remix he does is crazy.
