People who speak English as their first language will easily pick up most of the lyrics, understand them and remember them after a few listens.
This will be a much slower process for people who didn't grow up speaking English as their mother tongue. They will need way more listens to understand what might be obvious to native English speakers. Thoughts?
Not an English speaker but I also don't feel the need to remember and understand all the lyrics to every album... I'm just vibing
Imo it def has to do more with how accessible the music is, cause lyrically hip hop is actually more complex than any other genre and really it depends on the type of rap
You can’t tell me Blu album got more replay value than a rock/pop album to a foreigner
speaking English is easy as s*** though
Tbh, dont most countries have english as common second language? Probably just means you gotta have the lyrics up sometimes to understand i guess
idk and quite frankly idc
but it's funny seeing some of these non english speaking mfs adopt "mumble rap" nowadays, like before that they were into g unit, 2pac n s*** lmao

yeah it's the most important language for a reason
for sure, i can only speak for myself but i did the reading lyrics during a first listen thing quite often like 10 years ago, since references and especially accents can be a hurdle sometimes
completely stopped doing that years ago tho, it got to a point where i don't even need to do that

I agree, I never had problems with speaking or understanding English, it's always been super easy for me
but I've noticed it takes so much longer for me to to remember a US rap song's lyrics compared to German rap

remembering lyrics is a little different yeah, you probably always remember s*** the fastest with the language you grew up with
doesn't have much to do with knowing the language and moreso with your memory. memorizing things like songs and book passages is a unique skill that should be develop while youre still young, but once you got it it'll become easier no matter the language
plus, most native speakers dont case for lyrics like that and most of the time will require just as many listens as non-natives who speak the language competently. the only difference is they'd be able to pick up on cultural references and idioms quicker (also depends)

that time they tried to pass grime and battle rap as the next big thing in russia and everybody was recording over grime beats was wild
