• mumble rap commonly refers to a specific period in time
• it might refer to a certain performance style but thats not how people use 'mumble rap'
• in regards to referring to a period of time it doesnt make sense because the vast majority of those rappers at the time, well, didnt mumble. for the rest its a delivery style but the term has a neg connotation so I wouldn't refer to that style as such
• the subgenre you could be trying to describe is melodic trap and the lane can be generally referred to as new school/new gen rap
• kanye been slurring words forever we never called it mumble rap in our life

I mean I like plenty of new stuff but every now and then I end up pressing play on a song with a beat that is a whirlwind of buzzing saw synths and bass so distorted into the front of the mix. When the lyrics finally come into play it’s some kid doing their best impression of someone else’s best impression of Future but with completely unintelligible rapping.

I hope I’m not becoming an old head (again I like allot of new stuff) but this corner of rap is so uncreative, untalented, and devoid of any sort of soul.
