you’d be surprised by how little game directors know about the actual development of games. devs do as told and more often than not, they’re being told by some middle aged guy who just wants whatever features is in the most profitable games. that’s why games been so stale lately.

yeah it's a gamble. i remember a few years back trent reznor was working with a studio to get a game made and one of the developers revealed that some of the ideas were really cool and some s*** was just bizarre and wouldn't make for a fun game, even if it was interesting and could maybe make for a good movie or something.
