Very good take, and I can absolutely see this side

  • Sep 26, 2023

There were similarities, both kind of a talking off beat flow

I truly, truly enjoy reading your posts man. Thank for your insight, I agree with this 💯

    Yeah Hov lost

Once trap tempos took over, he should’ve went back to riding the beat like Vol 2 and before and stop the conversational stuff. Instead he tried to keep the slow conversational flow on a production style that didn’t suit it, and sounded awkward from 2011 to present as a result of that miscalculation

Nah. I’ll take Jay’s sporadic appearances on tracks like God Did vs Nas’ series with Hit Boy.

to keep the slow conversational flow on a production style that didn’t suit it

I don’t know man the production on 4:44 matched his flows perfectly imo. The dusty crackling samples & the drums, NoID really pulled through.

Now on Magna Carta that is a totslly diff story

    Ok that’s a fair point

But even on 444, yes the vibe suits it

But the tempo is what doesn’t. The beats go with a slower modern trap tempo compared to albums before 2010 and it’s why jay still sounds awkward at points, he can’t find the pocket of that bounce

Yea. I do. Sometimes it seems like Hov is struggling to keep up with the beat. Nas does that s*** effortlessly

God I get this feeling too man. Nas is just so aggressive on every track on this 6 album run, and he just flows & flows & flows.. it’s mind boggling. He sounds 19!!!

Eh...to each their own but I'd rather listen to 6 quality albums back to back than one good verse on a Khaled song.

Jay's God Did verse is classic but his other verses outside Written Testimony this decade weren't up to his standard imho.

Entrepreneur was underwhelming. Neither Jay or Nas delivered on Sorry Not Sorry. Jail wasn't that impressive. The Nipsey song came and went. Love All was okay but threw off the vibe of the song that the initial outro nailed. And his Neck & Wrist verse had a pretty sloppy delivery.

If Jay's going to go the Andre 3000 route, he needs to step his feature game up cause it's only so long that God Did can carry him.

God Did isn’t carrying him, it’s the huge army of Hovengers in high places that are working day and night to push the propaganda

They did an editorial on that one verse on like an actual news network, and that wasn’t just cause the anchor was inspired to do it lol someone told him to do it

Nah. God Did was a classic verse from him, albeit Wayne and Ross's verses were almost as good.

But his other recent features ain't really much to write home about.

I may be the only person that thought the opposite of Jay’s verse lol. I thought he put his whole ass into that verse & made it very meaningful & personal. Plus it is loaded with Kanye references, very cool

Just curious, what turns you off so much about the 6 albums Hit & Nas did? Was it the production or Nas’ rapping?

Or is it that you like the Nas albums, but 4:44 and A Written Testimony are so good to you, you prefer those?
