Honestly… nevermind
Hnvm in my top 3 drake records but no way believe it was on par with beatles level innovation lol

It’s in my top 3 as well
Let’s open up the floor and really have this discussion.
Why was it that none of the Big 3 were really influential as far as artistry and sonics go?
I really can’t name many younger rappers tryna sound like Drake, Kendrick, or Cole.
Is it because their styles originate from an older era of rap? Or is it because, as rap has become more entry-level and DIY, the levels of their artistry can’t really be replicated and/or emulated?
Beatles made Helter Skelter and a bunch of other weird s*** tho lol
Yeah I'm trolling, but they didn't quite delve into that harder stuff even though they were wildly experimental after Rubber Soul
that's the reason why The Beatles and Drake comparison don't hold much water to me either
like The Beatles weren't just a cultural phenomenon, they were actively innovating and creating new studio techniques that niggas bit off of and emulated + they were experimenting on their albums and doing all sort of weird s*** at the height of their powers
Drake? lol
Yea. I can’t say that I’m the biggest fan of theirs but I feel like a lot of the slander is rooted in assuming they were just some milquetoast boomer band.
There’s some interesting s*** about them
the closest I think Drake got to being “innovative” was the underwater “toronto sound” style production off Take Care and various other tracks released after.
but even then, thats moreso to the credit of Noah 40

I can’t speak for Drake. I feel like his influence is largely in R&B.
As far as Kendrick goes I feel like his genre defining classics came out in time periods where the game was shifting away from blog era lyricism.
GKMC came out when I Don’t Like and Keef as a whole was blowing up.
TPAB dropped when SoundCloud rap was just starting to take off
Drake created YOLO you moron
George Harrison created YALA
You Always Live Again

what Drake can hang his hat on is having a hand in changing the archetypal rapper image (alongside Kanye, Cudi) by being introspective and disarmingly honest in his music + popularizing/blending rap/R&B music together that set the stage for niggas like Tiller
that's about it

I was also gonna mention that Kendrick's influence hasn't really shown up too much either compared to other artists too. I think Kendrick's is due to his style and artistry not being something that's very easy to replicate to an extent
no beatles joint is touching snowblind or looking for today
The Fab Four vs The Not-Feeling-So-Fab Four

And what about Cole?
no beatles joint is touching snowblind or looking for today
You so real for Snowblind
And what about Cole?
Cole i have no idea lmao, that's gonna have to be someone else that can fill in the blanks
i never graded Cole like that period
George Harrison created YALA
You Always Live Again
dude seemed like a misery prick
Quadra denying his kid exists just like his goat, the standom is too fire
Yo what were yall on in here

And thats not nothing
but it’s nowhere close to a Wayne, Kanye, Beatles, etc etc type of influence
Yeah I'm trolling, but they didn't quite delve into that harder stuff even though they were wildly experimental after Rubber Soul
for a band that started with Love Me Do, Helter Skelter, I Want You and Guitar Gently Weeps are relatively heavier than a neutron star

Yeah he's an inspiration, not usually an influence.
Even though he has a fair share of rappers that are sonically influenced by him. JID, Saba, IDK, Anderson .paak come to mind
