Men should make it blatantly clear when they want to sexually objectify someone and when they want to critically engage with someone. they don't to protect their emotions, and the other partner who invests itself with emotions is the ones who loses. women (the more common victim of this dynamic) should not be chastised for their apathy at face value, and men (also the more common victim of this dynamic) need to be more patient and egoless when this dynamic arises.
