I feel like over the years shadowbanning became a general scapegoat and basically a conspiracy for people on all types of algorithm-based platforms. I remember first encountering it in Dota 2 with rumors of 'hidden pool.' However, aside from Twitter, which apparently practiced some sort of 'exposure limitations' for right-wing accounts, I'm yet to find any conclusive research or proof of hidden pools for any other platform
A lot of times when I see ppl complaining about hidden pools it's under obviously false pretenses. I'd hear how a person was so great at this game that devs decided to 'punish' him for it for some 'crazy reason'. I also remember this person I follow on IG complaining about being shadow banned when her reels started getting less traction but like girl maybe you just don't have that exposure boost anymore and that's that I also know gamers who regularly harass tech support in various video games threatening operators with violence and writing these paragraphs about not understanding why the devs are out to get them. My friend's partner works for Riot customer service and she would send us some mortifying convos
Do you know any studies on various shadowbanning practices across social media and video games? What do you think about the idea and do you think it's a conspiracy theory?
Happened to me on KTT2. Moved my thread to misc then a private section because everyone liked it too much

Hoeing of the century
I think I found something and I have no idea why they'd ban content like 'progressive causes' and 'plus-sized influencers' and whatever the f***, it does literally nothing in every sense of the word
is it just to keep the facade of ''''''neutrality''''''' by removing any political content?
It is real, but as you said, its become the scapegoat for whenever someone sees their interactions go down.
Which can eaisly be explained by how people interact with your/other content. Which can change their algorithm and make them see less of you.

On Reddit it's very easily observable in small threads: if there is a post that has, say, 4 comments, but only 3 are visible, that means someone who is shadowbanned commented
