I did this video looking at the artist economy in 2025 and the different types of things and experiences artists big and small (but mostly small) are selling their fans
what I'm curious on KTT is
do you guys buy a lot of artist merch? less or more than you used to? how much do you have to like an artist to buy it?
yes, i buy merch when i really like an artist/the album
my gf sometimes says that i collect merch instead of collectibles like Funkos but i just like being able to display my interests without bringing strangers into my apartment
Too much tbh, if yall want some never-worn band tees lmk
But I only buy merch at the shows, that’s key to the appeal for me as the merch object commemorates the event. Backwoodz is the lone exception where I’ll buy a record or apparel in advance
I always buy artist merch. Especially the weird stuff. Kenny Mason sold a holder for those dog poop bags, Saba sold pencils, got an ashtray from ScHoolboy Q
yeah I try and always grab something at every show cus I know it's how they make bread. artists are making it harder though with weaker designs while hiking the price. earl merch at the show last week was so half assed and expensive.
less than i used to. when i realized most of the merch is made with the cheapest blanks

For sale: band tees, never worn. 😔

I bought a hoodie from Freddie Gibbs in like 2020 or 2021 and it's the best quality artist merch I've ever gotten, I still wear it a lot
When I do it’s always bad quality. I wish my favorite artists would take the Travis Scott route and collaborate with bigger brands for quality sake. There wasn’t even LV x Clipse merch, just damn Gildan tees
Yes I always try to buy a shirt when I go to a show or festival and I get annoyed when the merch is bad

Do u have a page where you’re selling?

Not yet but I’ve been meaning to set one up. Is there a platform you’d recommend?

I hate a band shirt without tags, you know what I mean?
Whenever you see merch where the artist’s name has been printed on the inside where a tag would normally go, it’s some trash
The designs have to be hard
I do buy totes and vinyl's tho
yeah
I used to buy a lot of merch but idk these days the merch sucks, overpriced, or don’t feel too attached to the project. More likely to buy a CD at a concert
Yeah if it looks cool.
Flatbush Zombies used to have the best artist merch for a minute.

Easier said than done the margins are crazy tight
Easier said than done the margins are crazy tight
The margins are the reasons its mostly just the album cover on a t-shirt, which business wise I get
But its kinda ass
if it sucks im not buying it nowadays, when i was growing up i'd try and get it for every concert but i dont care enough anymore
Heck yeah if it’s good
