It's World Humanitarian Day (Aug 19) and I had the thought of whether anyone else on ktt is involved in any form of charity!

I believed the last time I donated to a cause was when the earthquake hit Nepal in 2015. Since we've been overrun by the pandemic I've gradually increased my involvement in giving back to those in need.

Personally, there are a few causes I am most passionate about. Those being hunger/nutrition and education. It goes without saying that having access to quality food and education is important. We are living and breathing creatures who need fuel to survive, and food is fuel for thought. Everyday, 40,000 children die from hunger. IN 2021.
Additionally, education is the bedrock upon which our society stands on. There are too many potential brilliant minds all over the world that simply don't have access to proper education and we're shooting ourselves in our own foot as a species by not enabling everyone to be able to learn on an equal playing field.

I'm familiar with givewell.org and charitywatch.org/top-rated-charities as great resources for targeting specific causes you want to support. If anyone knows any others you should post them here!

It's never too early or late to be philanthropic. Humans out there just like you need help.

Haven't donated to orgs since the GA senate elections, but there's been a huge rise in homeless people in my city so I've been trying to help most people that ask for it.
Had a homeless guy ask for chips and soda as I was walking into a dollar store couple days ago, so I hooked him up with snacks, soda, water, hand sanitizer and some tp. I also slid a kid selling candy in front of safeway a $10 the other day and told him keep the candy lol
