I was just thinking about how, even as I have grown and started doing it less and less, I have said many stupid things on the Internet, sometimes just completely without thinking and with the sole purpose of getting attention.
When I think about how easy it is to link all of my online accounts to me IRL if you really wanted to try, I get worried.
Like, what if my kids look me up online after I die and one of the first things they see is me saying some hyperbolic nonsense about a rapper I don’t like on f***ing KTT2 and I can’t even explain my mindset at the time? Would kill me if they saw their dad as lesser because of something like that.
Idk, I’m not gonna just stop using the Internet, but it really makes you think before you hit post.
I hope if any of my family finds my KTT2 account, they’ll have the good sense to know I was in my early 20s at the time and just spouting s***.

I wonder if, as more generations go by and there is more and more continual evidence that everyone has unflattering sides immortalized on the Internet, stigmas and shame around some things will begin breaking down.
Like, I wonder if in 100 years people won’t even care or raise an eyebrow to someone saying something weird or having a weird fetish or expressing themselves strangely, because the Internet demonstrates everyone has something “off” about them.
Or will it go the other way, and as the more strange and unsightly aspects of humanity become more visible, the fervor to suppress and destroy them will grow as well?
    Much to think about

That’s a good point. I just worry about the context of it all getting lost.
Idk, I try not to be bigoted though, since bigotry is a bad thing, so I should hopefully be decent in that regard

ima be honest most of that s*** will be lost to time

even though there are substantial archive efforts, most of this stuff will disappear because no one cares about it except the people who experienced it directly

No point in worrying if it’s not offensive. Post what you like and if people choose to interact or unfollow so be it. Post for yourself, not to fit someone else’s assumed agenda when you’ll barely ever meet them again lol. Honestly, nobody cares that deep once the initial reaction/comment to what you posted wears off and they continue scrolling

Our kids will probably be too occupied with their lives and whatever’s going on at the time to worry about our online presence from say a decade or more ago assuming that’s when they’d be more in tune with internet culture (at like age 10+)

Plus just imagine how deep they might have to dig to find anything like that
