    Lil Baby’s dropping

Trap albums are always the same anyway. Wouldn't be surprised if he started selling less.

But wasn't it just this year that Gunna Wunna outsold pop star sensation The Weakened

mr morale has the lowest first week sales for a top seller since pink friday 2 back in 2012

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_in_hip_hop_music

majority of the top charting singles were just album debuts that fell off after the first week

the paradigm shift to streaming gave the numbers a boost for a while (helping a bunch of artists snag wild #1s in the process) but easy come easy go and the commercial side of the game is in a fallow period again

the current 2005-2008 gen of teenagers is nothing but a bunch of degenerate idiot useless tiktok addicted kids and the music quality is sadly starting to reflect that which in turn affects the sales

I actually do think your scapegoat plays a role but not in the way you describe. They just have different music consumption habits than the young people of last decade (coincidentally including myself) which are not as structurally conducive to so many artists racking up gold album plaques off streams (also I get the sense they kind of don’t like hip-hop as much)
