I bumped some Cudi back in high school during the Day N Nite era, but admittedly I never heard Maui Wowie until TikTok
I actually just discovered that it samples Grind Mode - I’m So High which I used to play a ton but completely forgot about. Cool memory unlocked for me
No, I’m so out of the loop on whats happening that I never notice

Well yes they don't really like the song or indulge in the bands projects, they just like the aesthetic and trendiness of this one song that went viral

Yes a little bit and i want to know the psychology bhind why because i know its stupid to be annoyed at
50 Cent got more monthly listeners RN on Spotify than ninjas like Young Thug, Lil Durk, NBA YoungBoy and Lil Baby, and all these names dropped albuns this year
The new viral AI versions of his hits popped the songs again
Who remember when Kid Cudi was hating when one of his songs was poppin on TikTok, now bro realized the good side of it
classic song deserves a new audience hope hyyer is next

I guess it's a strand of gatekeeping, wanting to withhold the thing from people who are experiencing it without the context that you or I experienced it with
probably natural to some extent. a feeling of undeserved cultural currency
older songs dont get audience, they appear in a global virtual playlist to be consumed and subsequently discharged from algorithmical bowels. out of millions of streams it is an actual handful like literally three to four people who end up on thematical forums or discords or acquire this or that as their new hobby or develop any profound interest in something that has to do with a 'viral' thing
the point of 'exposing' whatever to new audiences is the same marketing strategy that works to sustain a stream of profits into labels and industry pockets and feeds the producer of this content (artist or musician) with lies and false hopes
tbh this usually isnt how it goes down in my experience usually its something gets more liked on the internet or famous as like a deep cut like a universally beloved thing except now it snowballs into tiktok and can become a resurged hit cuz everyone else is like oh this is great!
also a kid named cudi got re released remember so this the first time new ppl had exposure to it is recentky
or in the case of its tricky by run dmc its just a really catchy sound for tt lol
Never. Let kids discover music just as we did. It’s a beautiful thing when it becomes evergreen
