  • So earlier I posted a bit of an outrageous thread where I voiced my frustrations at how annoying it is as a young person

Now, this was from the context of the UK. we cant meet in groups larger than 6, bars close at 10pm (not an effective measure). Its ridiculous and doesnt actually help that many people

In the US, is it really a free for all or something? My opinion is popular in the uk

So in the US I’m sure you know we have these territories called states that are “kinda sorta” like mini countries. Consequently each state has the power to decide if they want a lockdown or to open everything up. Most states have imposed some sort of “light lockdown” while a few have opened all the way up as if there is no virus.

So do we have lockdown in the U.S.? Yes and no, depends on the state we live in.

    It varies state to state.

In new mexico where I live bars haven't been open since March. My wife owns a dance studio and she can operate at 25% capacity. But there's no like curfew or anything. But masks are required outside in parks and in stores that are open.

At one point in time California had lockdown restrictions that you’d expect coming out of China or something, the strictest in America. And for their population density they did remarkably well handling the virus.

Countries with comparable population densities like Florida had a much more relaxed restrictions and the virus has ravaged that state.

Yea @OP govt in North American countries like canada and US are very decentralized.

Since we’re so big land mass wise so much can change province to province and state to state

So like this guy ik some canadian provinces hv like literally single digit cases, so life for them has been p normal. Meanwhile my province was the epicenter of canadian covid, and my city specifically. So we had a full lockdown for 4 months. A milld reopening and s*** popped off again so yea now everything like resteraunts, musuems, bars and cinemas are closed again.

My college basically got us locked down. All our classes online now & we aren’t allowed to visit anyone else’s dorm no matter what. I couldn’t tell u the name of a single person who lives on my dorm/floor. If u get caught visiting on campus or partying or anything like that it’s an instant suspension. They rly got mfs driving hours to the next university just to get f***ed up.

    i live in MD

a lot of restrictions were lifted here (republican governor go figure) but aside from ocean city people generally aren't being dumb. never seen an anti-masker and we had our first day a couple of days ago with 0 covid deaths since march, which was a pretty big milestone.

Besides requiring masks, you wouldn’t really notice there’s a pandemic in Ohio.

here in Massachusetts restrictions are much more relaxed than they were in march but bars are pretty much the same, you can’t sit down inside at most of them and most close around 11 after opening at 4ish

Seems like a lot of the midwestern/southern states are handling this very differently than over here in new england

It’s trash but at the end of the day you’re talking about making sacrifices to save lives.

The government has made so many missteps so far but it’s not fair to just give up and let more people die because of it.
