Context changes from back to front with his dad not dying he has a good outlook and vibe because he’s on top. But eventually he’s still in a f***ed up place as he becomes consumed by his ego and eventually dies.

But starting it from the beginning when he starts out with his negative outlook he finally gets to a place of enlightenment and realizes how different his life coulda been if his pops died

Basically it shows how black life can go both ways and that we’re not inherently idiotic when we come from f***ed up situations or are doomed to being persecuted regardless

DAMN feels like the most thrown together album in Kendricks discog, both GKMC and TPAB feel like well thought out elegantly executed concepts while DAMN feels like a rickety bridge

After listening to backwards and forwards. I realized it doesn’t really matter because the ones themself doesn’t seem like they go in a particular order. It can be shuffled tbh

I’ve listened backwards a couple times, I get the context changes but it really doesn’t add anything for me. If I get into a wave where I start listening to the album heavy, I might play the “collectors edition” once or twice for a change of pace.

Thematically the songs stand on their own more than anything regardless of what order you hear them… really I just listen to my vinyl tho so
