These days I watched the movie Jacob's Ladder (1990), which I read somewhere was one of the inspirations for the visuals of this new era. (Till I Bleed Out, I guess?) Gorgeous psychological thriller, so masterfully done, and with brilliant acting by Tim Robbins (Shawshank Redemption)
