  • And how can it be fixed realistically? Let’s be honest, out of the major economic systems capitalism is the best, but how can it be fixed to where it doesn’t cause people to just chase the almighty dollar and live life unfulfilled?

Yeah but I’m not talking about resources, in talking about the chase of material items. The way people have to have the latest car, phone, eat from expensive restaurants, brag about their money..etc

There was greed long before capitalism.

This is just greed on steroids.

This is a product of human standards reaching a point never seen before. In the past people could only afford like one piece of clothes all year round

Greed is natural, unchecked capitalism isn't.

this kind of materialism is as old as human society and people creating actual cities. Look at the extravagant lifestyles of the ultra rich ancients for example.

The industrial revolution created a world where people did not have to work as hard so other things could be pursued, on top of this creating businesses got easier over time thanks to capitalism and rapid technological advancement. This eventually means an extravagant lifestyle is easier to achieve. Couple this with improved communication, cheaper manufacturing. transportation and the rise of social media, the decline of religion and you find that people can compare themselves to an ideal that they will endlessly pursue. People are becoming more dissatisfied with their lives in this society and this consumerism is a big part of this.

Humans are a product of their environment

Capitalism breeds and encourages greed, yes.

That depends on what you consider greedy.

It's not greedy to want to keep the money you labored for; this is what socialism actually is -- not the Bernie Sanders welfare-capitalism bullshit that people call socialism.

It is not only greedy, but some kind of normalized-psychopathy to be cool with exploiting the labor of others to enrich yourself. This is what capitalism actually is -- using the state's violent enforcement of privatized property/means of production to exploit millions of dollars out of the workers.
