Something that I’ve been a little critical of Drake recently is the usage of beat switches. I think as a concept it’s a great tool to help narratively shift a song and change tone, but it seems like lately there is really no point to most of them, at least compared to a song like this. I think purposeful and intentional switches would help give his songs more meaning, rather than feeling like a track with multiple instrumentals :​ meant to just fill up space.

Biggest pet peeve is that these beat switches half of the time should be two separate songs

The 2nd beat often times is like a whole different idea so I don't even understand the point of the switch. Like on RBD, it just makes the song so unnecessarily long.

First song that comes to mind is Fair Trade, that song did not need Travis or a beat switch.
