    this

not being fully mainstream? he has consistently high tier album feature placements, gets headlines at major music festivals when he feels like it, has performed on late night TV, every time he releases something he gets on year end top 10 lists from every major publication. Blonde sold 276k first week and is now platinum what more does this guy gotta do to be considered mainstream

They want him to have number 1 hits every single year. He's just not that type of artist. Some are just weird and have a weirdo perception on being mainstream and radio.

Frank ocean is fully mainstream despite how bad you guys want to think otherwise

  • Sep 5, 2020

Early on Frank had a top 40 hit and major placements

He’s still very mainstream due to who he associates with but he just doesn’t make radio pop music anymore. Him being bi has nothing to do with it he’s such a good writer you have to really be listening to his earlier stuff to know what it’s really about and mainstream radio listeners just aren’t doing that

and in between that he was working with: Jay Z, Beyonce, Kanye, John Mayer etc..

and then after that Calvin Harris, Travis Scott, Young thug, Rocky & French Montana....he's as mainstream as it gets

why do y’all think every artists’s goal is being some kind of mainstream/commercialized version of themselves

  • Sep 5, 2020

rnb isnt a big genre like dat

All I'm saying. He's clearly not getting into that same range top 20 artists are getting while being one of the most hyped artists so I was just asking why

he’s not connected to a label so he has no radio push and no commercial push. Every song at the top of the 100 has radio and promotion to get it there

I mean if Frank Ocean released a s***ty mid album every year instead of a legendary one every four I don't think he'd be any more popular.

  • Sep 5, 2020

He prevents himself from being bigger but you really cant tell how his sexuality would change anything. I feel like him being bi actually fit with his demographic but maybe it's the other way around.
