OUT OF ORDERI might get hate for this and I don’t mean anything offensive by it, but honestly I doubt there would be as many gay/transgender people nowadays if kids weren’t growing up isolated all day in their niche internet groups with fellow depressed people who encourage that lifestyle and project it onto them.
However on the flip side of that same coin, it does provide these people with an outlet to talk about the similar issues that they’re facing which gives them some relief. So that’s always a positive.
Even though I bet a part of it is indeed in their nature, life experiences and who you choose to surround yourself with definitely play a factor as well.
I doubt there's more LGBT+ people because the internet. We only notice it more because its accepted and people don't have to be closeted for their entire life anymore.

Hard point to properly disprove, but i think realistically social acceptance is going to be the real reason why the size of these groups is increasing as a % of society.
Here in the UK for example homosexuality was only decriminalised around 50 yrs ago, so makes perfect sense that any official statistics for the prevalence of it would have been understated, and the numbers would increase as people were more open about that identity (and of course less people feeling the need to stay closeted possibly for their whole lives).
On a similar note, mixed race marriages have gone from about 0.5% to 4% in the last 50 years - noone would point to a negative influence causing that
