Bout to be the second half of the decade in 2 weeks
What's it looking like?
Will the big 3 plus the Nu 3 (Trav,Uzi,Carti) be surpassed?
If so who? Have we seen em yet? Or is it people who are not on the radar yet?
Any suggestions or are we cooked?
BossmanDlow tried his best this year ...he tried
JID is set up to be a superstar he has a Tik Tok hit and respect from the hip-hop heads I think his next album could launch him into the next stratosphere
Doechii could also capitalize on the year she's having and be a big deal
After that there's a few guys like Westside Boogie, Redveil, and Kenny Mason I'm really interested in but I just don't think they have the mainstream reach for this conversation
no, in 2036 you will still be debating on whether or not we should replace cole with tyler in the big three. travis scott will sell 2.5m first week with his eighth consecutive watered down version of rodeo.
Here's my view of how hip hop evolved
1979-1987 = foundation
1988-1992 = shakeup
1993-2003 = golden age
2004-2009 = shakeup
2010-2016 = second golden age
2017-2020 = shakeup
2021-2024 = slop
I dont think hiphop has ever been in a bad of a state as its ever been. Granted, i thought the same in 2008, but the restabilization was undeniable. This time the shakeup (soundcloud era), while enjoyable (to me) has degraded the traditional values for so long and so tremendously that it has fpr the first time brought, what seems like, permanent damage to the game. Id love for it to be improved, or just differ in any way, but i cant help but look negatively at it. This era is genuinely worse than the bling era it feels like
Rap will severely struggle without the big 3
I feel Carti, Uzi n Trav hit that level.
Uzi n Trav put up Kendrick/Cole numbers
5 years already is insane.
Covid severely f***ed up the start of the decade.
Feels like we really started in 2022/2023
I think it's safe to say the 2020-2024 years is the worst era of rap in history

Uzi already fell off. Travis yes. Carti can’t carry s*** even tho i like him

without getting into details i gotta say its true

Carti has zero appeal outside of gen Z
Uzi fell off
Travis Scott has the numbers but he’s horrible lyrically

Someone should make a thread about that tbh it's quite the phenomena
It's funny cause Carti is huge but the "rap crowd" (lil baby/future/meek etc) crowd does not seem to check for him at all.
I will never forget that IG clip of Offset bumping Carti and Cardi B was like
"oh who that?"

It’s genuinely crazy and lowkey impressive that Carti is as big as he is and his audience is like exclusively teenage white boys. Even Travis’s fanbase is more demographically diverse than that

Unfortunately this is true.
2019-2024 was such a bad period for mainstream rap.
The genre peaked commercially in 2018 and it seems like it’s almost become a caricature of itself since then

Yup Trav even has hits that cross barriers.
Carti don't even have that. He may truly be the internets first true rap star.
He is not popping by traditional means at all (Clubs, Radio, etc.)
Uzi and Trav have transcendent hits, Carti don't yet he still seems bigger than em online.
