I love artists like Jai Paul and Frank Ocean. I wonder if their mystique has anything to do with their appeal. The Weeknd can maybe fit into this category too.

Yea. Even Micheal Jackson said himself that you have to have some sort of mystery to you. Like magic about you

  • Mar 23, 2021

    for sure

  • Mar 23, 2021

Yeah it makes things a bit more interesting

  • Mar 23, 2021

I make albums so people can play it and you actually hear it

    If the music is good

This is the key. If an artists is tryna be mysterious, they gotta make some absolute fire or else it looks corny

  • Mar 23, 2021

    It’s apart of their image

So definitely, but it can also hurt them as well

When i was 16 and put artists on a pedestal, definitely

Now it comes off as forced sprezzatura and its corny

  • Compare someone like Kendrick & Drake

When we see a recent picture of Drake we go ”aight”

When we see a recent picture of Kendrick he starts trending with captions like ”they found Kendrick” yet Drake is the biggest artist rn. If you’re on ig live everyday it takes away the image of you that the fans have created in their own brain.

    Ask jay electronica

  • Mar 23, 2021

definitely i’d say for someone like mach-hommy it adds to his artistry. also it means your fans cant expect the same s*** twice you can freely experiment as you wish without any expectations. frank mysteriousness kinda the reason why we got a blonde cos if he wasn’t so mysterious he woulda sort of had to conform to making channel orange 2

To an extent. When you get to the point where you’re making your music not as accessible (not putting it on DSPs) or it becomes your entire persona it’s corny as hell to me

  • Mar 23, 2021

    Yep

Examples: Weeknd, Frank, Jai Paul, Carti, Jay Elect

idk cos a lot of people who don’t put their s*** on dsps do it cos of sample clearances like sample snitches ruin it for those kinda artists

  • Mar 23, 2021

jay electronica’s presence on discord ruined my image of him completely

Oh no I agree with it from that aspect but I guess I’m specifically talking about instances where it’s possible but not done. Endless for an example
