    oh i get you

i guess that could be worth a shot. dont see any new gen artists pulling it off simply because they arent really project focused in the first place

It would be something thats introduced mainly by the engineers n producers.

But yeah. The condensed, "pointy" & heavy low end characteristics of the "tape sound".

If they want to get really extreme they could even do the pops n peaking like how psome songs mimic the crackle n tape whine of vinyl n casette lol.

But of course since it isnt something that just happens due to the situation, they can n will make a more "glamorized" n nostalgic version of all the "quiks" n issues with purpose, again like how we do with vinyl & casette characteristics on everyday music for 2 decades now.

    Sir Swagalot

old folks rant and rave about how the 8-track is so nostalgic, but even they admit that it sounds like s***. at least cassettes and vinyl have a distinct sound to where they actually sound good

They all sound like s*** in comparison on day accurate equipment. Especially cassette. We still improve vinyl technology today due to the boom in mid 2010s, but period accurate vinyl players most are ass besides the high roller ones.

People take the quirks & characteristics then use them in a galmorized, nostalgic n idealistic way that is also controlled instead of random.

it depends on the equipment you got, like you said. i have a Technics turntable and cassette deck from the early 80s and i think they sound amazing...way better than streaming imo (specifically the turntable)

The mixtape sound comes from the songs being recorded and mixed properly for the most part but if theres a DJ on there when they send it in to add their tags and rewinds they over compress the song to make it sound like it’s in the song instead of just added afterwards, gluing it together is what the engineers call it. Radio uses this same method

Mixtapes with no DJ sound cleaner if you haven’t noticed

Yeah also the equipment theyre using n time period.

And yeah i know that. Nowadays most things are accessible n affordable or cracked enough on top of the streaming services doing their own pre mixing after you give it to them, that the "sound" doesnt exist anymore & we now have a newer standard of basic audio quality.

Also i disagree with dj part to an extent.

The tapes i have in op n the later ones i mentioned itt all have that clear as day "mixtape stink" on them in their sound & quality.

Some are "worst" than others tho of course, but most tapes still cant shake off that stank.

Even most of the "high quality" tapes still have that "mixtape funk" they cant wash off.

Its the time period, at home tools n plugins that were available & the rendering.

That’s mostly due to the songs being exported at the lowest possible bitrate and codecs to be uploaded to the mixtape sites

You add all those factors and you have the “mixtape sound”

    "What are you talking about"

    • then goes on to mention what im talking about

Are you not aware that engineers purposely use vinyl & casette characteristics to add character & uniqueness to their sound lol, mainly because digital today is really sterile & flat.

Its a common practice, especially in Rap, RnB & Pop since the 2000s in varying ways.

Click on the link in my bio & listen to my album, I used a vinyl emulator heavily on my last album.

    Probably too much tbh
